promoting Atlanta's history

historic oakland foundation

The Historic Oakland Foundation works to preserve, restore, and beautify Oakland Cemetery. Located in downtown Atlanta, the Victorian garden cemetery is the final resting place of Maynard Jackson, Atlanta’s first African American mayor; six Georgia governors; Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind; and golfing great Bobby Jones.

The foundation needed an appropriate, flexible graphics system for promoting their efforts. Citizen Studio worked with designer Meg Dreyer to develop a logo, letterhead suite, and library of graphic ornaments and patterns based on details found in the cemetery. Citizen Studio has also developed a brand standards manual, revived the Oakland Herald newsletter, and most recently, developed a signage system that points out cemetery highlights without interfering with the authenticity of the site.
