The Citizen Studio partners are honored to featured as a sustainability-focused firm in the current issue of Graphic Design USA. See the feature here (as well as our new portrait shot by the talented Josh Meister).

We know, we know… it's just bad form to let your blog collect dust. That's what happened to ours this year, but we have a great excuse.

Meet our newest citizen, William James Doherty. While the studio is our "baby" too, Will has happily taken much of our focus this year. So while our blog isn't looking great at the moment, 2011 will be remembered as one outstanding year. And here's to a great 2012!

As the new year comes along, so does an updated Citizen Studio logo. We're happy to unveil a new-and-improved version of our original mark. We hope you like it. (Look up and to the left!)

Why update our logo? Or any logo? When you find you need better scalability, legibility, and ease of use across all media. You may not have noticed the new mark as it's very similar as the original. While some identity solutions call for a complete redesign, many it's smartest to work with what you have and just make it better.

Savannah College of Art and Design holds the Design Ethos conference October 7-9 in Savannah, Georgia. This symposium explores how the role and responsibilitis of designers must evolve to work in the sustainable economy. Speakers include some of our personal favorite sustainability design folks, Phil Hamlett (presenting the Living Principles, and John Bielenburg (discussing Project M).

Run for EARTH is a new fundraising program developed by EARTH University Foundation. It allows runners to add a little more meaning to their races by helping to fund the programs at EARTH University in Costa Rica, where students learn sustainable farming, community development, and the path to a sustainable future.

Every new computer and piece of electronics in your home or office probably comes packaged in expanded polystyrene (EPS), the lightweight white material often referred to as styrofoam. And because EPS pieces are molded for a specific purpose, they are not useful after you have unpacked your new laptop or monitor and often end up in the landfill.

This is an update to our original post. The survey is extended to July 17 and the workshop will now take place in late August 2010.

Earth Day is great reminder of why we're trying to move brand communications toward sustainability. In honor of the holiday, Pink magazine posted a Q&A with Citizen Studio partner Linda Doherty that covers some common questions about green marketing.
